GEORGE TOWN, October 23 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today welcomed the commencement of Package One of the Juru–Sungai Dua Traffic Dispersal Project (PTJSD), marking a significant step toward easing traffic congestion along the North-South Expressway stretch.
The first package involves upgrading the roundabout at the East-West Interchange and constructing a new flyover at Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, with Naza Engineering and Construction Sdn Bhd appointed as the main contractor.
Chow said the multi-billion-ringgit project, officially scheduled to be launched by the Prime Minister on November 8, will be completed in several phases over the next four to five years.
The 17.3km highway — including a 9km elevated section — is expected to benefit around 200,000 daily road users by improving traffic flow between Juru and Sungai Dua, with Package One works estimated to take 24 months without disrupting existing traffic lanes.
