GEORGE TOWN, November 28 — The Penang Green Summit 2025, officiated by YAB Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang and Chairman of the Penang Green Council (PGC), was held today at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) under the theme “Moving Towards Sustainable Energy.”

The annual event brings together policymakers, industry leaders, academia, and communities to advance Penang’s low-carbon transition and align with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Penang Energy Framework.

A major highlight of the summit was the signing of an MoU between the Penang State Government and Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad to establish the nation’s first state-level Climate Mitigation Fund (CM Fund) — a blended financing initiative to help SMEs adopt greener practices through preferential financing and ESG capacity-building.

With achievements including a 19% annual drop in energy intensity and 24% reduction in industrial waste since 2019, Penang continues to demonstrate that sustainability and economic growth can go hand in hand.

The Summit underscores Penang’s commitment to driving industrial decarbonisation, green financing, and collaborative climate action towards a more resilient future.
