KUALA LUMPUR, December 3 — As Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the nation’s hospitality and tourism industry is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable growth, with a target to attract 47 million visitorsand generate RM329 billion in revenue.

Industry players are embracing eco-conscious initiatives — from green building designs and renewable energy use to waste reduction programmes — to align with global sustainability goals and attract environmentally conscious travellers.

This transformation not only enhances Malaysia’s reputation as a responsible destination but also drives economic growth through job creation and skill development across hospitality, digital marketing, and sustainable tourism sectors.

Fuelled by innovation and community engagement, Malaysia’s tourism landscape is increasingly defined by eco-friendly initiatives and local empowerment.

Programmes such as community-based ecotourism (CBET) have enabled destinations like Gunung Tebu in Terengganu to generate over RM380,000 in revenue while supporting women and youth entrepreneurs.

With strong government backing through the National Ecotourism Plan (2016–2025), sustainable certifications, and tax incentives, the nation is set to balance economic progress with environmental stewardship.

By combining technology, cultural preservation, and sustainability, Malaysia is charting a path toward a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive tourism future.
