GEORGE TOWN, November 13 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today dismissed Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammed Sanusi Md Nor’s renewed claim that Penang belongs to Kedah and should pay higher lease fees, stating, “See you in court.”
Speaking at a press conference in Komtar, Chow noted that Sanusi had made similar assertions three years ago, but the Penang government has never received any formal legal documents or petitions from Kedah.
Chow reiterated that the state legal adviser is ready to provide guidance if Kedah proceeds with legal action, noting that Penang currently pays an annual RM10 million honorarium to Kedah, far below Sanusi’s demand of RM100 million.
The Chief Minister emphasized that any future steps will follow legal advice, and the state government is prepared to defend its position regarding historical claims, lease agreements, and water extraction rights from the Muda River.
