Apple is preparing to roll out macOS Tahoe 26.2 next month, bringing three significant new features aimed at enhancing productivity, communication, and advanced computing. The first is Edge Light, a smart video-calling enhancement that uses the Mac’s Neural Engine and Image Signal Processor to simulate a virtual ring light.
It intelligently detects the user’s face and adjusts brightness based on the environment, improving clarity during calls. Edge Light works on all Apple Silicon Macs and even supports external webcams and the Apple Studio Display.
For developers, researchers, and AI professionals, macOS 26.2 introduces Thunderbolt 5-powered Mac clustering, enabling multiple Macs—such as Mac Studio, M4 Pro Mac mini, and M4 Pro/Max MacBook Pro—to be linked with ultra-low latency at up to 80Gb/s.
This allows clusters of Macs to run massive AI models, including trillion-parameter systems, more efficiently than traditional GPU-heavy PCs. The update also grants Apple’s MLX framework full access to the M5 chip’s neural accelerators, setting the stage for major performance gains in future M5 Ultra Mac Studio systems.
The third major addition is Urgent Reminders, a new toggle in the Reminders app for tasks with due times. When activated, the reminder triggers a timed alarm on the user’s iPhone or iPad, ensuring important alerts aren’t missed.
The feature integrates seamlessly across devices running macOS 26.2 and iOS/iPadOS 26.2, offering a more reliable way to manage time-sensitive tasks in daily workflows.
