KOTA KINABALU, November 30 – Warisan demonstrated that it remains a formidable political force in Sabah’s high-stakes state election, retaining its stronghold in the east coast while making impressive gains across urban constituencies.

Led by former chief minister Shafie Apdal, who secured his third term as Senallang assemblyman, the party won 25 seats—an improvement from its previous outing despite years of defections and a poor showing in GE15.

Warisan held Silam, Merotai, Sebatik, and Tanjung Aru, where vice-president Junz Wong won decisively even without Pakatan Harapan’s support. The party’s most striking achievement was its sweep of several Chinese-majority urban seats.

Effectively removing DAP from the Sabah state assembly by capturing Luyang, Likas, Sri Tanjong, Tanjong Papat, Elopura, and Kapayan. Although it fell short of forming the government and lost key battlegrounds such as Kunak, Petagas, Banggi, and Moyog.

Warisan’s solo contest across all 73 seats proved its enduring grassroots strength. Shafie’s earlier stance against partnering with federal-based parties underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining a distinct Sabah-centric identity as it charts its next steps.
