KUALA NERUS, December 24 — Terengganu has officially added the 4×4 extreme motorsport scene to its Tourism and Cultural Events Calendar (COE) 2026 as one of 13 flagship programmes supporting the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, recognising the sport’s growing popularity and potential as a tourism draw.
The fifth Terengganu 4×4 Merdeka Challenge, held in Bandar Baru Kuala Nerus in August, attracted 152 vehicles and 304 participants nationwide, while local team GG 4×4 secured third place at the Rainforest Challenge Grand Final 2025 in Kelantan, highlighting the state’s rising profile in off-road motorsports.
Datuk Razali Idris, Chairman of the State Committee on Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change, officiated the launch and emphasised that strategic collaboration between the Terengganu State Tourism and Culture Department, MOTAC, and Tourism Malaysia will strengthen the state’s contribution to the national campaign.
Muhammad Muzzammil Mokhetar, principal stakeholder of the Terengganu 4×4 Merdeka Challenge and President of UT4x4, noted that the success of the sport as a tourism product stems from cooperation among local clubs, and upcoming initiatives include a 60-kilometre expedition through Hulu Terengganu forests, further promoting adventure tourism in the state.
