KUALA LUMPUR, December 25 — The Malaysian Youth Council (Majlis Belia Malaysia, MBM) has welcomed the appointment of Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari as Minister of Youth and Sports and Mordi Bimol as Deputy Minister, expressing hope that the new leadership will steer youth development policies that are grounded in the real challenges faced by young Malaysians.
MBM said the appointments come at a critical time as youths grapple with rising living costs, graduate employability, changes in the world of work and growing mental health concerns, underscoring the need for data-driven policies shaped by grassroots voices.
In a statement, MBM stressed the importance of strengthening youth organisations as strategic partners of the government, with greater emphasis on youth economic empowerment, dignified employment and inclusive development across all segments of society.
The council also conveyed its appreciation to outgoing leaders Hannah Yeoh and Adam Adli for their contributions to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, reaffirming MBM’s commitment to remain a constructive yet critical collaborator to ensure the interests and welfare of youths continue to be safeguarded.
