KUALA LUMPUR, December 26 — Malaysian travellers are showing a growing preference for domestic year-end holidays, with all top five local destinations recording higher accommodation search volumes compared to last year, according to digital travel platform Agoda.
Based on searches made between September and November for December stays, Kuala Lumpur emerged as the most searched domestic destination, followed by Penang, Malacca, Kota Kinabalu and Johor Bahru, with all locations seeing double-digit growth and Kuala Lumpur posting the highest year-on-year increase at 18%.
While interest in local travel continues to rise, Malaysians are also eyeing overseas trips, with Hat Yai, Bangkok and Tokyo topping international searches, and Krabi and Seoul recording the strongest growth in interest, reflecting a diverse mix of travel preferences as Agoda continues to offer value-driven options for both domestic and international year-end getaways.
