GEORGE TOWN, December 20 — The installation of railings at the No-Stopping Zone along Jalan Burma has been implemented to reduce traffic congestion, ensure smoother access for emergency vehicles, and enhance pedestrian safety following repeated public complaints about illegal parking causing bottlenecks.
According to Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, vehicles stopping illegally had narrowed the road and delayed traffic flow, including ambulances and fire engines heading towards the Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Mount Erskine junctions, raising safety and emergency response concerns.
Woo said a site visit and discussion were conducted on September 28, 2025, with MBPP councillors, emergency service representatives, residents and business owners, confirming that the railings do not obstruct emergency access.
To support traders and road users, loading and unloading bays have been provided at Solok Moulmein, nearby parking spaces remain available, and 23 new parking bays were added in front of the PERKESO building.
He added that his office will continue working closely with MBPP to further improve road safety, accessibility and traffic management in the area.
