KUALA LUMPUR, December 22 — Malaysian rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was acquitted today by the Magistrates’ Court of a drug use charge after a chemist’s report confirmed a negative urine test.

Magistrate S. Arunjothy granted the full acquittal following the prosecution’s withdrawal of the charge, with Wee’s lawyer Joshua Tay noting there was no prospect of further action on this specific case.

Despite the acquittal, Namewee still faces a separate charge of possessing 5.12 grams of ecstasy at a hotel on Jalan Conlay, with the next court mention scheduled for January 19, 2026.

Wee had previously been arrested in October in connection with drug use and possession, as well as an investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin, for which he was released on bail pending further reports.
