KUALA LUMPUR, January 10 – Nearly one in five Malaysians aged 18 to 40 are at risk of prediabetes or diabetes, according to Sun Life Malaysia’s 2025 Blood Glucose Screening Programme, with lifestyle factors such as frequent sweetened beverage consumption and low physical activity contributing to elevated blood sugar levels.

The nationwide screening of 5,373 participants found that 32.1% had elevated blood glucose, yet 71% of at-risk individuals plan to rely on personal savings or family support for treatment, while only 18% are covered by insurance or takaful.

Highlighting both a growing health concern among younger adults and a significant gap in financial preparedness for managing chronic disease.
