KUALA LUMPUR, January 20 — Malaysia is aiming to attract 4.6 million Indonesian tourists this year under the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign, driven by strong visitor growth trends and extensive promotional efforts.

Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin said the target is achievable following the arrival of 4.1 million Indonesian tourists in 2024 and 3.8 million recorded up to November last year.

Noting that VM2026 will feature year-long initiatives themed “Surreal Experiences” to showcase Malaysia’s natural attractions, adventure offerings and vibrant urban destinations. Speaking at the VM2026 launch in Jakarta in collaboration with Indonesia AirAsia.

He added that 320 large-scale programmes have been planned to support the campaign. Indonesia AirAsia’s Head of Affairs and Policy Eddi Krismeidi Soemawilaga said the airline currently operates 396 direct weekly flights from 16 Indonesian cities to Malaysia.

Offering 72,822 seats, with plans to introduce a new route by mid-year to further strengthen tourism connectivity.
