KUALA LUMPUR, January 17 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for an education system that goes beyond academic achievement to nurture ethics, compassion and social responsibility, saying true education must empower individuals to become humane and socially conscious citizens.
Speaking at the launch of Bangkit Semula: Memoir Warga Yayasan Anda Akademik in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar said this philosophy underpinned the founding of Yayasan Anda Akademik (YAA) in 1971 to give school dropouts.
Especially youths from low-income backgrounds, a second chance through inclusive and values-based education. He described YAA as more than an institution, but a “school of life” built on idealism, volunteerism and faith in human potential.
Adding that its philosophy remains relevant to building a Malaysia Madani grounded in justice, compassion and balanced development.
