KUALA LUMPUR, January 18 — Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today proposed a “grand collaboration” to unite all Malay- and Muslim-based parties in Malaysia through a broad framework of cooperation, stressing that the initiative is neither a party merger nor a backdoor move to undermine the unity government.

Speaking at the closing of the 2025 Umno General Assembly, Zahid said the effort aims to consolidate shared struggles for Islam and the Malay community without dissolving existing parties or reviving past alliances such as Muafakat Nasional.

And assured Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the plan would not jeopardise the stability of the Madani administration, adding that Umno would engage other party leaders to explain and seek support for the concept.
