KUALA LUMPUR, January 20 — Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh announced today that all large-scale development projects in Kuala Lumpur must now take into account the views of the city’s Members of Parliament before decisions are finalised, marking a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in urban governance.

Speaking after the inaugural meeting of the Federal Territories Ministers Council and KL MPs, Yeoh said MPs will be given early access to the One-Stop Centre (OSC) portal to review and provide input on development applications in their constituencies, ending the practice of notifying elected representatives only after approvals are made.

In the same meeting, Yeoh also unveiled five new MP-led monitoring committees to oversee key areas of Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) 2026 Budget expenditure, covering sustainable business, public housing and community wellbeing, flood mitigation and infrastructure maintenance, traffic management, and cleanliness and sustainability.

The committees, chaired by various KL MPs on a voluntary basis, aim to strengthen oversight of major spending items, while the forum between the minister and MPs will convene quarterly to review policies and ensure city development better reflects public interests.
