KUALA LUMPUR, January 21 — Malaysia’s trade value reached a historic RM3 trillion in 2025, marking a record high attributed to clear policy direction, discipline and good governance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told Parliament today.
Speaking during Prime Minister’s Question Time, Anwar said the achievement came despite global trade volatility driven by geopolitical tensions and shifting US trade policies, adding that the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) will release a detailed breakdown of last year’s performance later today.
Reviewing the broader economic picture, Anwar noted that Malaysia’s GDP grew 4.9 per cent in 2025, exceeding expectations, with strong domestic demand and robust performances across key sectors driving a 5.7 per cent expansion in the final quarter.
He said the government’s strategy to diversify export markets and explore new sectors, including technology, has paid off, enabling Malaysia to remain resilient amid protectionist pressures while strengthening trade ties within the region and with new markets.
