BUKIT MERTAJAM, January 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the ringgit’s position as one of the best-performing currencies in Asia reflects the government’s commitment to good governance, political stability, and strong investor confidence.
He noted that the currency’s strengthening is driven by efforts to maintain peace, ensure efficient administration, and take firm action against corruption and misappropriation. Speaking at the Madani Cultural Carnival and Kenduri Rakyat Penang 2026 in Permatang Pasir.
Anwar highlighted that the ringgit recently broke the key psychological level of 4.00 against the US dollar, reaching 3.9992 — its strongest level in over seven years. He stressed that safeguarding the economy begins with governance.
Emphasising that there must be no skimming, commissions, or misuse of public funds to sustain long-term economic confidence.
