KUALA LUMPUR, February 10 – Malaysia’s median monthly wage for formal sector employees rose to RM2,864 in September 2025, a 4.3 per cent increase from a year earlier, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
The Third Quarter 2025 Employee Wages Statistics report showed steady labour market growth, with formal employment expanding 3.5 per cent year-on-year to 7.06 million workers, while male employees earned a higher median wage of RM2,900 compared with RM2,800 for females.
DOSM noted that employees below 20 years old recorded the fastest wage growth, with median pay climbing 13.3 per cent to RM1,700, while those aged 45 to 49 earned the highest median wage at RM3,800. By sector, mining and quarrying continued to lead with a median wage of RM6,600, while agriculture recorded the lowest at RM2,245.
Kuala Lumpur posted the highest state median wage at RM4,064, and Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin highlighted that although wage inequality persists, the proportion of workers earning below RM1,700 declined significantly year-on-year.
