KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 — DAP’s Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng has called on SME Bank to restore public confidence following a RM460,000 fine by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for failing to promptly submit suspicious transaction reports.

Warning that compliance lapses could undermine the bank’s ability to support Malaysia’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which contribute 38 per cent of the nation’s GDP, provide 48 per cent of jobs, and account for 13 per cent of exports.

While stressing that the institution must demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and transparency to safeguard the RM2 billion in government initiatives entrusted to it.
