BATU FERRINGHI, February 6 — In a heartfelt gesture for World Cancer Day, Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang, hosted a special lunch at Spice Market Café for five children undergoing cancer treatment, together with their immediate families, as part of its Golden Ribbon of Hope campaign.
Funded by donations collected during the resort’s Christmas Lighting Ceremony and throughout December 2025, with a total collection exceeding RM 16,000, each child received RM 3,333 in support, personally presented by General Manager Jegan Selvarajan, reflecting the community’s care and hope for these young fighters.

The children, ranging from 20 months to 13 years old, are battling conditions such as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, osteosarcoma, and other critical cancers, with their families often traveling long distances from Kedah, Alor Setar, and Kuala Nerang for treatment.

The initiative underscores the immense resilience of the children and their families, with one child, Gathirravan A/L Ravi, remembered fondly after his passing in December 2025. This program builds on Shangri-La Penang’s wider philanthropic efforts, including the Gift of Life and Gift of Limb programs.

Which in 2025 alone raised over RM 300,000 to assist more than 45 children with life-saving treatments and mobility support. Since 2015, these initiatives have collectively raised nearly RM 1 million, positively impacting over 170 children across Penang, Kedah, and Perlis.
“Shangri-La believes in giving to those who truly need it and supporting children battling critical illnesses like cancer,” said Jegan Selvarajan. “Through our annual charitable efforts, we aim not only to provide financial support but also to inspire hope, highlight resilience, and encourage community involvement in improving the lives of children and families facing challenging health journeys.”
