KUALA LUMPUR, February 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized today at the Malaysian Economic Forum 2026 that Malaysia’s rising GDP and improving economic indicators would be meaningless if ordinary citizens do not experience tangible improvements in their daily lives.

Highlighting 2025’s 4.9% GDP growth and low 1.6% inflation, Anwar stressed that success is measured not by numbers alone but by how growth translates into better living standards, affordable cost of living, and meaningful opportunities for Malaysians.

He also called for broad-based economic reforms, focusing on regional development, SMEs, tourism, healthcare, housing, and preparation for an ageing society, while addressing the challenges posed by technological shifts such as artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister underscored that integrity, accountability, and institutional reforms must underpin sustainable growth. “There will be no tolerance for corruption and no exceptions for the well-connected.

Without credibility, there can be no sustainable growth,” he said, adding that systems must outlast individuals to ensure lasting progress. He further highlighted the importance of climate action, describing the energy transition as essential.

And reinforced his administration’s commitment to disciplined fiscal management, anti-corruption measures, and policies that expand opportunities while safeguarding Malaysians against inequality.
