KUALA LUMPUR, February 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said current market assessments have raised Malaysia’s economic growth outlook for 2026 to between 4.5 and 5.0 per cent, reflecting strengthening domestic demand and sustained investment momentum.
He noted that earlier official projections had placed growth at 4.0 to 4.5 per cent, and said the improved outlook is broadly aligned with assessments by the Finance Ministry and international institutions, despite continued global uncertainties.
In a speech read by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Anwar said inflation is expected to remain moderate, supported by prudent monetary policy, while Bank Negara Malaysia is projected to maintain a growth-supportive stance that safeguards price stability and financial soundness.
He stressed that the government remains committed to fiscal discipline and phased structural reforms, with the banking sector playing a critical role in sustaining investor confidence, supporting productive financing and strengthening Malaysia’s economic resilience.
