GEORGE TOWN, March 18 — The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has expressed deep concern over the surge in corruption cases from 2025 to early 2026, involving billions of Ringgit that could have benefited the public.

Citing MACC data, CAP noted over RM8.4 billion recovered in 2025, with more than 1,100 arrests and nearly 200 convictions, including high-profile figures such as former senior military leaders. Warning that corruption weakens national security.

Widens inequality and deters investors, CAP called for stronger whistleblower protection and mandatory custodial sentences without leniency to curb abuse of power.
