KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — Malaysia’s e-invoice system has surpassed one billion transactions with participation from more than 200,000 taxpayers nationwide, reflecting strong compliance and acceptance, according to Inland Revenue Board (IRB) chief executive officer Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin.
He said over 135,000 taxpayers, including those under phase four and newly registered businesses, have begun submitting e-invoices, with more than 90 per cent of companies in phases one to three implementing the system on schedule.
Emphasising that e-invoicing is not a new tax but a digital transformation of existing documentation processes, Abu Tariq noted that the initiative benefits businesses of all sizes, including MSMEs, by improving efficiency, transparency and record-keeping.
Businesses earning RM1 million or less annually remain temporarily exempt from mandatory implementation, while the IRB continues to provide free platforms such as MyInvois Portal, MyInvois Mobile App and MyInvois e-Pos, alongside nationwide briefings and support services to ensure a smooth transition.
