KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has appointed Ashwad Ismail as its new Director-General, succeeding Suhaimi Sulaiman, who stepped down in February 2026 after nearly three years.

Ashwad brings nearly two decades of experience from Astro Awani, where he was part of its founding team and later served as editor-in-chief. His appointment has also drawn congratulations from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

Recognising his leadership in the regional media landscape. A Broadcast Management graduate, Ashwad also holds roles with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and Universiti Islam Selangor.

Known for his journalism career and international exposure, he previously led the Malaysia-Indonesia Journalists Association. His leadership at RTM is expected to focus on innovation, editorial strength and adapting to a rapidly evolving media environment.
