Apple Inc. has unveiled its most advanced laptop chips yet, the M5 Pro and M5 Max, built on a new Apple-designed Fusion Architecture that combines two dies into a single system on a chip.
Powering the latest MacBook Pro, both chips feature an 18-core CPU with six high-performance “super cores” and 12 efficiency-focused performance cores, delivering up to 30 percent faster pro workload performance.
A next-generation GPU with up to 40 cores and integrated Neural Accelerators boosts AI and graphics capabilities to more than four times the previous generation’s peak GPU compute. Designed for demanding workflows such as 3D rendering, code compilation, and AI model development.
M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory with 307GB/s bandwidth, while M5 Max scales up to 128GB and 614GB/s bandwidth. Both chips include a faster 16-core Neural Engine, enhanced ray tracing, Thunderbolt 5 support, and advanced media engines.
Apple said the new MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max will be available for pre-order starting March 4, with availability beginning March 11.
