KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said online platforms have complied with 80% of the 6,481 requests made by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to remove pornographic content since January 2022.

A total of 5,203 items were taken down, while 4,380 websites were blocked at MCMC’s request. He said removals were based on complaints, platform guidelines and existing local laws. Fahmi told the Dewan Negara that the Online Safety Act 2026 (Act 866).

Enforced since Jan 1, strengthens regulation of harmful content. Since its implementation, six pornographic items have been flagged and removed. He added that the Safe Internet Campaign has reached over 472,000 students nationwide.
