GEORGE TOWN, March 4 — Fahmi Zainol has officially ended his service as Penang’s state executive councillor for agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development effective today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced the decision at a press conference, saying he had met Fahmi earlier in the morning and that the Pantai Jerejak assemblyman accepted the outcome.

Chow said a replacement name would be submitted to Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Ramli Ngah Talib for consent. The move followed a formal request from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) seeking a replacement after Fahmi was suspended from party posts pending his court case.

Fahmi has pleaded not guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife.
