Leukaemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, remains among Malaysia’s top ten cancers. The disease includes acute types such as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, which progress rapidly.
And chronic forms like Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, which develop more slowly. Early detection is challenging as symptoms—fatigue, prolonged fever, infections, bruising, or weight loss—often resemble common illnesses.
Health experts stress that a simple blood test can provide early clues, improving survival chances. Advances in diagnostics and treatments, including targeted therapies and stem cell transplants, have significantly improved outcomes.
Public awareness campaigns by groups such as National Cancer Society Malaysia continue to promote early screening and education nationwide.
