KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has criticised electoral reform group Bersih for alleging that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is being used as a political tool.

He described the accusation as unfair and premature, urging critics to wait for the findings of the government’s special committee investigating MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholding issue. Anwar said the committee, chaired by the Attorney General, is expected to submit its report soon.

The investigation was formed following allegations regarding Azam’s shareholdings in a financial services company. Azam has maintained that his share ownership, valued at about RM800,000, was transparent and complied with established procedures.
