KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 – The government is implementing cost-saving measures and tightening discretionary spending amid global economic uncertainty caused by the conflict in West Asia.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the move aims to ensure government funds are preserved for urgent and unforeseen needs should the situation affect Malaysia’s economy.

Loke said development and socioeconomic spending, including projects and public assistance, will continue as planned, but spending will be prioritised for initiatives that benefit the people.

He added that official Aidilfitri open house events will not be held this year, although departments may organise smaller internal gatherings to mark the festive occasion.
