BAYAN LEPAS, March 12 – The Bayan Lepas roundabout near the Penang International Airport has been temporarily reopened to help ease traffic congestion in the area.

The Penang Island City Council said the earlier closure and traffic diversion from Jalan Tun Dr Awang to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah were introduced following a traffic impact study related to nearby development projects, including the airport expansion.

Upgrades were carried out to improve traffic flow, including widening the slip road from Jalan Tun Dr Awang to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah to two lanes and constructing a U-turn near the roundabout.

However, ongoing Light Rail Transit construction works and road diversions along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah have disrupted traffic flow.

Authorities have therefore reopened the roundabout temporarily until road upgrading works and LRT construction are completed. Motorists are advised to follow traffic signs and drive cautiously.
