PUTRAJAYA, March 14 – The Malaysian government has approved increasing the nation’s rice reserves to cover nine months, ensuring food security amid ongoing Middle East conflicts.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu confirmed that staple supplies, including rice, chicken, vegetables, and fruits, are sufficient at least until May or June, assuring Malaysians of a stable supply during Aidilfitri.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also directed all ministries to engage with industries under their portfolios to assess potential impacts and gather feedback.

Proposed measures such as remote work for civil servants are under review, with decisions expected in next week’s Cabinet meeting. These proactive steps aim to maintain food security and government operational continuity during geopolitical uncertainties.
