KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will reduce rental rates for hawker stalls and selected premises by 50% from April 1, 2026 until Dec 31, 2027.
Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh said the initiative is expected to benefit more than 10,000 hawkers and micro-traders operating at DBKL-owned sites across the capital.
Helping to ease the burden of rising operating costs. Yeoh said the decision was made in response to increasing cost-of-living pressures driven by global economic uncertainties, including higher oil and logistics costs.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud said the reduction sets a minimum rental rate of RM50 per month, while tenants must settle any outstanding arrears to qualify.
The move is also expected to benefit residents by helping stabilise food prices and daily necessities in the city.
