KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the federal government continues to bear the cost of diesel subsidies for Sabah and Sarawak to help ease the burden on the people amid rising global fuel prices.

Speaking at the National Consumers’ Day celebration in Kota Kinabalu, he explained that diesel prices in the two states were not raised when subsidies were adjusted in Peninsular Malaysia due to higher diesel usage in East Malaysia.

Anwar said the diesel subsidy for Sabah and Sarawak amounted to RM2 billion in 2025 and is expected to rise to RM4.6 billion this year. He added that the government remains committed to implementing initiatives to ease the cost of living.

Including programmes such as Jualan Rahmah and other consumer support measures, while continuing to maintain the subsidised price of RON95 fuel for Malaysians.
