PUTRAJAYA, March 18 — The Malaysian government has awarded RM12.38 million to 34 media organisations under the Media Innovation Fund Phase 1, with offer letters presented at the Ministry of Communications.

The initiative is aimed at accelerating digital transformation, encouraging the adoption of new technologies, and promoting sustainable journalism practices across the country.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the programme received 50 applications in Phase 1, with 34 selected after a comprehensive evaluation process.

Phase 2 involved 19 organisations, while Phase 3 has recently concluded, reflecting strong industry participation and demand for innovation support.

Among the recipients, Pocket News secured funding across multiple categories, including equipment, software, and staff training, with eligible organisations able to receive up to RM300,000.

The fund covers four key areas—training, technology adaptation, equipment, and content development—designed to strengthen talent, enhance capabilities and ensure Malaysia’s media ecosystem remains resilient, progressive, and globally competitive.
