PETALING JAYA, March 18 — The Malaysian government has announced a significant increase in fuel prices, with RON97 petrol rising by 70 sen to RM4.55 per litre and diesel in West Malaysia up 80 sen to RM4.72 per litre, effective March 19 until March 25.
Non-subsidised RON95 remains at RM3.27, while subsidised RON95 under the BUDI95 programme stays at RM1.99 per litre. Diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan are unchanged at RM2.15 per litre.
The price adjustments reflect rising global crude oil costs above US$100 per barrel due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The government maintains targeted subsidies, protecting over 400,000 vehicles in public transport and goods sectors.
And aims to cushion the impact on households and businesses. Monitoring and enforcement measures will ensure fair pricing, while subsidies continue to support domestic economic stability amid volatile global energy markets.
