PUTRAJAYA, April 2 — The government is exploring nuclear energy as a strategic option to enhance Malaysia’s long-term energy security and support its clean energy transition.
Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Fadillah Yusof said the initiative, outlined under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
Comes amid global energy uncertainties driven by geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions. He noted that nuclear energy offers stable.
Low-carbon base-load power while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Agency MyPOWER Corporation has been appointed to lead preparations under international guidelines, including policy development and regulatory frameworks.
The government stressed that any future implementation will be carefully studied to ensure safety, sustainability and alignment with national priorities.
