KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call for greater workplace flexibility.

The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) has urged private sector employers to implement Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA), including work-from-home, flexible hours, and hybrid models.

The move aims to help organisations maintain productivity while addressing rising energy costs and economic uncertainties caused by the ongoing global energy crisis.

Under the amendments to the Employment Act 1955 [Act 265], effective January 2023, employees can request flexible work schedules without losing existing benefits such as overtime, rest days, and annual leave.

KESUMA, together with the Labour Department and TalentCorp, provides guidance, training, and best practices to support effective implementation.

Employers are encouraged to adopt FWAs strategically to enhance operational resilience, safeguard employee wellbeing, and ensure sustainable growth in Malaysia’s challenging economic environment.
