PUTRAJAYA, March 31 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the government will take a hard stance against individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Following a fatal Klang crash that killed motorcyclist Amirul Hafiz Omar. Loke urged the police to complete a thorough investigation for prosecution and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
Existing amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987 provide jail terms of 10–15 years and fines of RM50,000–RM100,000 for causing death under the influence.
The ministry is also considering further changes to require offenders to compensate victims’ families.
