KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to chair a National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting today to address the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict on Malaysia’s food security.

The session is expected to focus on strategies to mitigate rising costs and supply chain disruptions affecting key sectors.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Chan Foong Hin expressed hope that the discussions would provide relief for industry players, particularly in fisheries and crop cultivation.

Which are facing mounting challenges. Chan noted that the geopolitical tensions have triggered a global chain reaction, including surging oil prices and energy instability.

With ripple effects on food supply and cost of living. He warned that disruptions in critical routes such as the Strait of Hormuz highlight vulnerabilities in global fuel and food systems.

While Malaysia remains resilient, he stressed the need for proactive measures. Earlier, Chan attended a briefing with Agriculture Minister Mohamad Sabu on strengthening national food security strategies.
