KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad has announced the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) rate for April 2026, with domestic consumers receiving a rebate of 0.47 sen per kWh.
The rebate applies to households exceeding 600 kWh monthly consumption (bills above RM215.98), helping reduce electricity bills slightly despite rising global fuel prices.
For example, a domestic user consuming 800 kWh in April would save RM3.76 under the AFA mechanism, lowering their bill from RM333.44 to RM329.68, excluding service tax and contributions.
The AFA mechanism adjusts electricity charges based on fuel costs and foreign exchange fluctuations. Unlike volatile petrol and diesel prices affected by the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Electricity rates in Peninsular Malaysia remain stable due to Malaysia’s coal-heavy power generation mix and long-term supply contracts.
Monthly AFA trends have shown decreasing rebates since January 2026, with -4.99 sen/kWh in January, -2.77 in February, -2.15 in March, and -0.47 in April.
Forecasts suggest a minor rebate in May and June before potentially turning into a slight surcharge of +0.08 sen/kWh in July 2026.
TNB encourages consumers to monitor the official portal for updated AFA calculations and monthly adjustments.
