KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is set to implement comprehensive protection for gig workers under the Gig Workers Act 2025 (Act 872).
The agency urged platform providers to integrate their systems via API technology, enabling automatic deduction of 1.25% contributions from each completed task.
Ensuring consistent social security coverage without affecting work flexibility. PERKESO highlighted that the Act covers digital platform services and nine non-platform sectors.
Granting gig workers rights to fair earnings, contract transparency, and workplace safety. The law also introduces a grievance resolution framework and a dedicated tribunal.
PERKESO statistics indicate rising accident and benefit claims among self-employed workers, emphasizing the need for structured social protection.
The initiative positions Malaysia as a regional pioneer in legally safeguarding gig economy workers.
