KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Ling Liong Sik, a former Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president and long-serving Cabinet minister, has died at the age of 82.

His passing was confirmed by MCA president Wee Ka Siong. Widely regarded as a key figure in Malaysia’s political landscape.

Ling served as transport minister from 1986 to 2003 and played a major role in shaping national infrastructure and transport policies.

Born in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Ling began his political career as the Member of Parliament for Mata Kuching in 1974 before later representing Labis for four terms.

A trained medical doctor and graduate of the University of Singapore, he also held various deputy ministerial roles in information, finance and education.

Leaders and colleagues have described his passing as a significant loss to the nation, remembering his decades of public service and contributions to Malaysia’s development.
