IPOH, April 5 — Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that the 16th General Election (GE16) will not take place in the near term, urging Malaysians to prioritise economic stability and national security.

He stressed that the current global climate, shaped by geopolitical tensions and rising energy costs, requires focus and unity rather than political contestation.

Speaking at the Madani Rakyat Programme, Anwar said the government’s priority is addressing economic challenges, including rising oil prices, supply chain disruptions, and increasing living costs.

He called on leaders and citizens to set aside political differences and work together to safeguard the nation. Emphasising that “now is work time.”

He said elections can come later, but immediate attention must be given to strengthening Malaysia’s resilience amid ongoing global uncertainties.
