JOHOR BAHRU, April 14 – Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will chair the newly established Orange Economic Council aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s creative sector, as announced by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
The council will focus on industries such as film, music and animation, which contributed 6.8% to the country’s GDP in 2024 and are seen as key growth drivers amid the global energy crisis.
Fahmi said the Communications Ministry will act as a secretariat, with multiple committees to be formed to accelerate implementation.
He added that the initiative will leverage the Nadi network, which provides digital infrastructure and supports creative activities nationwide.
With over 1,000 centres serving nearly 2 million users, the government aims to further expand the sector’s global reach and economic impact.
