GEORGE TOWN, April 13 — Two people, including a senior lawyer, were killed in a fire that broke out at a double-storey shophouse along King Street in George Town.
The incident, reported at 12.14pm, involved a legal office unit where flames destroyed approximately 70% of the premises.
Firefighters from Lebuh Pantai and Jalan Perak stations arrived within minutes, although traffic congestion slightly delayed response time.
Initial reports indicated two victims were trapped inside the building. One victim was later confirmed found at 1.05pm, while both were subsequently pronounced dead.
The victims are believed to include an 88-year-old senior member of the Malaysian Bar and an office assistant in her 50s.
The operation involved 12 personnel, with assistance from the police and volunteer fire units, as authorities continue investigations into the cause of the blaze.
