PUTRAJAYA, April 14 — Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has ordered immediate upgrades to several of Malaysia’s border posts after finding some facilities in poor and unpresentable condition during site inspections in Kedah and Perak.

The minister visited checkpoints including Padang Besar, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Durian Burung, and Pengkalan Hulu, where he remarked that some duty posts looked worse than roadside burger stalls.

He instructed the Home Ministry’s leadership to expedite improvements, noting that only minimal costs and a few units were required to upgrade the facilities.

Saifuddin stressed that better infrastructure is essential to support frontline personnel tasked with border security, including preventing smuggling and monitoring cross-border movement.

He added that such efforts reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring a more conducive and dignified working environment for officers on duty.
