MARANG, April 14 — Anwar Ibrahim has called for the completion of the Terengganu Matriculation College in Bukit Payong, backed by an initial RM27 million allocation to expand access to quality education.
Highlighting strong demand with over 7,000 applications, he said the facility—capable of accommodating up to 3,000 students, would play a vital role in strengthening academic opportunities.
He also reaffirmed that top SPM scorers would continue to gain automatic access to higher education pathways, while maintaining the Bumiputera quota to ensure balanced inclusion.
In a separate engagement in Kuala Terengganu, Anwar announced a RM60 million federal allocation to tackle poverty in the state, focusing on income generation and housing improvements.
He added that RM1.8 million would be channelled towards upgrading facilities at 18 tahfiz schools, while encouraging students to embrace technology such as AI and strengthen multilingual skills.
The initiatives reflect the government’s broader effort to uplift education standards and socio-economic conditions in Terengganu.
